Chengdu is located in the west of Sichuan Basin and is in the heart of Chengdu Plain. This capital of Sichuan Province covers a complete area of 12.3 thousand square kilometers and is occupied by over 11 million people. Chengdu is well-known for its cuisine, namely the spicy Sichuan peppercorn which is used to flavor hot-pot dishes and specialty dishes found in other regions. Chengdu, as the capital is very dynamic comprising of copious mineral resources and the land is remarkably fertile. The city is also home to the recognized Chengdu Research Base of giant Panda Breeding, a conservation center where travelers can visit and see the endangered giant pandas in a natural habitat. Maldivian is scheduled to start operations to Chengdu in July 2016.
